The Ogham Trees

The creators of the first Irish Alphabet, Ogham, named its letters after trees and is based on a seasonal cycle of trees.  This is testament to the regard with which trees were held and served as a type of tree calendar.

There are 13 tree species in the Ogham calendar: Yew, Pine, Birch, Rowan, Alder, Willow, Hawthorn, Ash, Oak, Holly, Hazel, Apple and Elder.  In our video series below we examine each of these native trees and the folklore surrounding them.

We hope you enjoy the series.
